Mesh-Subdivision Methods in CGA Shape Grammars
نویسنده
چکیده
This report describes the application of mesh-subdivision algorithms in the context of CGA shape, a shape grammar for Computer Generated Architecture. Constituting a procedural modeling approach, CGA shape allows the creation of models under moderate effort, which can furthermore be varied easily by the possibility to parametrize the rules of CGA shape. At the Vienna University of Technology a CGA shape implementation is being designed and extended by a skeleton system, allowing an easier variation of poses for humanoid models. In this report we follow this idea and want to further extend CGA shape by meshsubdivision in order to achieve a higher quality and complexity in the resulting models. We discuss mesh-subdivision in general and evaluate the results of an implementation in the existing software system of the Vienna University of Technology. REVERSE LOOP SUBDIVISION FOR GEOMETRY AND TEXTURES
Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...
متن کاملConsistent Mesh Partitioning using Tetrahedral Meshes
This thesis presents partitioning techniques which classify a volumetric mesh into difierent regions while preserving the mesh connectivity (consistency). A mesh is partitioned by applying a plane partitioning technique which is geometrically exact, and a novel approach for approximate partitioning where triangular surface meshes are used as partitioning shapes. In both methods, the propagation...
متن کاملFilling Triangular Mesh Model with All-Hex Mesh by Volume Subdivision Fitting
The hexahedral mesh (hex mesh) is preferred to the tetrahedral mesh (tet mesh) in finite element methods for numerical simulation. However, generating a hex mesh with desirable qualities often requires significant geometric decomposition and considerable user interactions. Therefore, this process may require days or even weeks in the case of complex shapes. In this paper, we develop a method ba...
متن کاملFitting Sharp Features with Loop Subdivision Surfaces
Various methods have been proposed for fitting subdivision surfaces to different forms of shape data (e.g., dense meshes or point clouds), but none of these methods effectively deals with shapes with sharp features, that is, creases, darts and corners. We present an effective method for fitting a Loop subdivision surface to a dense triangle mesh with sharp features. Our contribution is a new ex...
متن کاملSubdivision based Interpolation with Shape Control
An interpolation technique with the capability of local shape control for meshes of arbitrary topology is presented. The interpolation is a progressive process which iteratively updates the given mesh, through a two-phase Doo-Sabin subdivision scheme, until a control mesh whose limit surface interpolates the given mesh is reached. For each iteration of the progression, the two-phase scheme work...
